Super Swage 600 case centering

Is it just me or do other people have problems with play in the case locator rod causing a case to every once in a while to not center up and cause the swage rod to slide off the side of the primer pocket and ruin the case? I've had my SS600 ever since they were first released, so I don't know if this was addressed in later versions.

It seems to me if there was better centering of the case that this problem would be eliminated. I have often thought that if the flat block (the one that adjusts to set the case height) had a V-groove in it, that it would greatly help with case centering.

I found Centering inserts manufactured by InLineFabrication.com that may do the job, but at $20+shipping they are pricey!

Maybe time to try milling a V groove in the flat block?

I use the In-line fabrication inset and haven't looked back. Dan at In-line has lots of innovative ideas for reloading, and if you get some of his other things he may be negotiable about shipping. Give him a call.

RE: Super Swage 600 case centering

I needed a "quick and dirty" fix so I could process a large quantity of cases right away, so what I ended up doing is I took the fuzzy side of some heavy duty Velcro and stuck a piece on either side of the opening.

Worked like a charm and I was able to get the rest of the casings processed without any more damaged cases.

I may still look into milling a V groove in the flat block for a more permanent fix.

I agree with divejj, the Insert Kit from Inline works great. I was having the same issue as you, so I called Dillon about it. They were aware of Inline's fix, but offered no comment about it or offered any fix to the problem. So I bit the bullet and bought the kit. It works flawlessly, and yes the $20 was high, but like you, I bought my 600 for $45 when they first came out, so I figured it was worth saving the aggravation.
