Setup woes.

Purchased a SL900 in Jan 2009, while deployed. It went into storage. I'm back and wresting with it.

Case feeder works well. Neat design. Case drop tube is OK. Has to be perfetly up and down for cases to drop down. I have had binding issues from the side of the primer tray on the tube.

The primer tray ..., the end of the primer "slide bar" (#16713 -- SL Primer slide Upper), was jammed against the powder bar return rod and was a real pain. Yes no primers were dropping down.

Had to turn the powder funnel slightly towards (and almost touching) the shot assembly, to get the primer slider to clear the powder return rod.

Powder funnel. No issues. Once adjusted worked well (but still haven't been able to verify it as I haven't done a batch yet).

Shot dispenser assembly has been a real pain!  I had major issues adjusting the assembly to get uniform shot amounts (and am not the sure it working properly yet.  The adjustment nut/bolt (# 13943) is loose within the shot bar assembly and has to be 'pressed in' while making adjustments. As another poster said, I've had 35 grain shot weight differences while attempting to calibrate it. Yes I drop 5 amounts of shot after making adjustments, before weighing the shot.  I then drop and weigh 2 more.

I'm using Remington STS hulls (and I listened to the help desk and dug out my longest 5 hulls to adjust with).

Anyone else having similar issues?

4 + hours of frustration today.

RE: Setup woes.

There is a set screw in the top of the shot bar. After adjusting the bolt, snug this set screw, then check the thrown weight. Depending on the shot size being used, 35 grains can be a normal variation. Weigh a few individual pellets to get an idea of what they weigh, and the variation from one pellet to the next. Shot weight varies far more than powder will.

Dillon puppy (can't tell what the avatar is),

Yes I knew what the set screw on top of the shot bar was and how to use it. Today I had to disassemble the shot assmybly and reset the adjust ment screw. I had to screw it all the way in, while watching the shot container shrink to minimum size (all the while holding the adjustment screw in with my thumb. Reset the set/locking screw.

Threw some shot. Just under 7/7 ouce at minimum setting. Repeatedly. Slowly backed the screw out unitl I got close to 1 oz shot.

BTW 35 grains of 8 1/2 size shot takes about 37 pellets, you were right on that.

Started slowly running loads thru the machine. Still mahing the occasional priner not drop or drop outside the little black primer arm. First case mouth was crushed on one side. The other 24 came thru decently.

More attempts tomorrow.

BTW my manual has version 2.8 on the bottom. Dies that give you an idea of when it was assembled?

Thanks

RE: Setup woes.

Well another day, another attempt to get this running right.

You noticed the word 'attempt'.  100 primers in tray, medium slow deliberate streking of the handle.  Took me 2 hours to run the primers/cases thru. Not a good result.

7 squashed/crunched/folded cases (to one degree of the other). Most at the inital sizing station.

At lest 12 times the primer did not drop thru the primer tube. Its a pain having to stand to watch the top of the primer swing arm to ensure if the primer is in place. Several other times I did not catch it (3-5 times) with powder dribblng all over the press/table/floor ... Had to blow it out with compressed air. What a pain.

Primer tray is still rubbing on case tube, which may be casuing some of the 'errant' primer issues.

Powder drop is good, shot wad/shot station, initial crimp & final crimp stations apper to be working well.

Amy suggestions?

Getting no love here (i.e. no response). At least none since 12/12/2012.

Still having priner issues. Primer tray and primer transfer bar are scraping (badly) on shell tube. Have to twist shell feeder to left to get ANY primers to drop. Still get rubbing on tube.  Will send pictures if I can find out who send them to.
