Primer Problem

I own a RL 550B and load for the 223.  The problem is with seating the small rifle primers.  I use mostly Lake City brass with some non-crimped factory brass.  When I de-prime the old brass I have several primers being dumped on top of the Primer Slide (13920); and maybe not getting a primer in the Primer Seating Punch, Large (13967).  I have also added a pair of washers on top of the Follower Rod (13707).

Any suggestions other than doing the all the case prep and priming in a different operation?

RE: Primer Problem

First, be sure you are using the small primer magazine (blue tip) and small primer slide for 223 (brass-colored cup). Next, be sure the magazine is installed correctly. The blue tip should almost touch the top of the white plastic primer retaining pin.

RE: Primer Problem

Don't know if this will help you but I had the same problem...don't know the name of it but it the little primer catcher under the Roller Bracket Assem 14280....I somehow jammed it open so that it just dropped the spent primers on the slide and because it remained open I was unable to seat a new primer....happened with my 9mm setup....I fixed the catcher so that it opened and closed as dillon meant it to do....catching the spent primer and dropping it into the spent primer cup....smile. also added a little weight to the lid to help the process as this you tube video shows.....Good Luck and happy reloading.

RE: Primer Problem

In addition check to see if the two fingers on the blue tip of the primer tube are bent too far out which will allow the primer to fall.
