Outrageous Shipping Cost

Why does Dillon charge such Outrageous Shipping ? I just placed a order for 2 powder funnels and 2 locator buttons. You charged me 9.99 shipping. That is NUTS. Could easily go into a padded envelope and ship for less than 5$.

That is a mystery to me with many companies. I have noticed that Brownells occasionally has free shipping days. When the cost of shipping is above a certain fixed percentage, I do not buy.

There is more to shipping cost than the cost of postage.

There is more to shipping than postage but there are many companies that will drop small parts in a padded envelope and mail it at a price less than using UPS or some other shipper. It's called effort and customer service.

I see no reason to ship everything by Fedex. USPS is by far cheaper and most cases a lot faster.
Being in Ohio Fedex 2 day (very costly) and USPS is 3 days at minium cost.
Fedex ground is 4-5 days and USPS is faster at only 3 days and far cheaper.

It's too high - I'm sure their intention is to profit from shipping, if not, then they don't know how to handle their shipping process.

I just ordered $20 in parts and ended up paying $30 for the order - 50% is a lot by any standard.

RE: Outrageous Shipping Cost

To put things into perspective, my Dillon dealer is an hour and a half from my home. I only buy from them when business brings me by there. That is about 15+ dollars in gas money going both ways.

OTOH, when I order from Dillon, I usually have an order that is over $150, their prices are the same as over the dealer I go to. But I don’t have to pay sales tax which is almost 10%.

Finally, when I picked up a badly neglected 550 from my friend’s estate, I called them up and gave them a list of items that were damaged and they cheerfully charged me nothing for a dozen parts that were worth well over a hundred dollars. No charge.

I was so upset at them doing that, so I ordered another $160 worth of dies, primer sensor, miscellaneous conversion kit parts so I could load multiple calibers without purchasing full caliber kits. The CSR spent over 40 minutes on the phone with me. /sarcasm

I work for a distributor in another industry. I regularly see customers that need a specific part that is not in stock locally and cheerfully pay $1500 for a hot shot delivery for a $75 part because it cost them tens of thousands of dollars to be down.

Believe me when I tell you Dillon is not getting rich on shipping. It costs them more in labor for the handling than what they are charging minus the actual shipping charges. Don’t believe me? Speak to anyone working in the distribution business.

The ones making the money are the shipping companies, with the exception of USPS that is losing money because they are giving money away to subsidize Amazon shipping. That won’t last much longer.

The simple answer is they are profiting on the shipping. Companies that ship regularly get big discounts from the shipper (this case FedEx). This discount is typically 50% off. Companies that ship a huge volume get and even heftier discount (Amazon).

Also, they are probably subsidizing the shipping cost of the large Press orders with the smaller orders.

I typically order from their dealers that offer free shipping or cheaper shipping because of Dillon's shipping rates. I agree they are too high and it seems others feel the same way.

Also forgot to mention. Not only do they charge a lot for shipping, it takes them several days to get the order on the truck.

While I think that their shipping rates are slightly high, I haven’t had any problems with the delivery time. I’ in NorCal and put in orders on Tuesday and GET DELIVERIES ON FRIDAY !! For me, product and service are TOP OF THE LINE (except for my powder sprinkles 😁😁)
