No BS Lifetime Warranty - Really??? Maybe Not

Currently Posted in Team on ARFCOM.

I've already spoken with Dillon a Dillon Rep this morning. This is concerning the Lifetime NO BS Warranty Statement.

A few weeks ago while loading some ammo something told me to check the accuracy of my Dillon scale. It's the older 1500 grain electronic one and I've had it for a good while, brought it new from Dillo. Anyway, I check the scale using the 50 gram weight and it's a half grain off- heavy side. So I try to calibrate it, and try and try some more the next day to no avail, CAL E every single time.

So, I call Dillon and tell the guy on the phone what's going on and that I know it's out of warranty and he asks what size scale it is. I tell him it's a 1500 grain D-Terminator. He says thaose have a Lifetime Warranty, he gave me a RMA number and told me to send it in for repairs, so I did.

Package arrives from Dillon this morning, I'm happy as all get out. Open package and there's a new 900 grain D-Terminator in there, I'm like huh? The man told me they would repair mine, what's this? I read the directions and everything and get to the part where it's warranted for a year.

Now, I purchased the original scale new, from Dillon with a Lifetime Warranty, sent it back to be repaired like told to. Was sent a new scale with a 1 year warranty. I explained the situation to the guy and he said I've gotten allot of use out of it. Well I maight have had it for awhile, but it hasn't been used much and never abused.

So, in closing I'm wondering if the Lifetime Warranty on the scale means that it was for the lifetime of the scale or not.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pissed, or whining. I just expected the scale to be repaired and returned to me like I was originally told. I purchased it new for like $179.00 IIRC way back when with a Lifetime Warranty and now I have a scale with a 1 year warranty.

RE: No BS Lifetime Warranty - Really??? Maybe Not

I had a sort of similar experience when I returned 3 of my Square deals for repairs of some of the older plastic parts that were broken. (Later plastic parts are made of a less brittle material)

When I went back to pick up my machine the loaders came out with many more parts replaced, like powder measures, primer arms, etc and also a bill for over $180.

I raised the issue higher in the management tree inquiring abut the life time warranty and was told to have a nice day and was given help loading the newly rebuilt reloaders in my car along with a "No Charge" invoice.

I suggest you inquire further up the management tree.

Good Luck!

Danny,

If you were under the impression that we were able to repair your scale, I apologize. We don't manufacture the scales, and certainly do not have the facilities to diagnose and repair an electronic problem on one. The lifetime warranty still applies for you.

Sakoman,

All repair invoices show both the cost of the replaced parts, plus a credit of the same value for the return of the damaged/worn parts. In no way shape or form would you have been charged this amount. However, if we zero the cost of those parts, then Dillon has to pay tax at full retail on the parts.

Please email us at sales@dillonprecision.com about warranty parts. Please include a list of damaged parts, and your address.

RE: No BS Lifetime Warranty - Really??? Maybe Not

I bough my RL 450 Serial Number 4423 in the early 80's when my Dad's single stage Herters press just couldn't keep up any more. I have made many 10's of thousands of rounds in various rifle and handgun cartridges. since then and have only had a few malfunctions in all those years. If I remember correctly Dillon replaced both the manual powder measure and primer bar with the automatic ones from the 550 as well as a whole new turret base. The only hard failure I've ever had is when one of the link arms broke, I called and ordered the parts and paid by credit card. The next day I remembered the lifetime warranty and called back to inquire why I was charged for these parts. The man on the phone was nice and refunded me my purchase price, although I had to pay the shipping charges. I wish the Dillon sales person was aware of there warranty and had reminded me at the time of my order. That said, I have no real complaint, my RL 450 has severed me a lifetime of reloading already, and I have recommended Dillon presses to friends on many occasions. I'm currently looking at a second Dillon because my 3 boys are all using my reloading equipment, and there Dad's old press is not keeping up anymore...
