New guy needs help

Hi All.
I'm 70 years old. Been loading with an RCBS Rock Chucker for many years.
Just picked up a used 550B from a buddy who's going into a retirement home.

He has two bars set up. One for 45 ACP and another for 9mm pistol.

My reloading is 90% .223. The others I figure I can do on the old Rock Chucker.

Been reading and watching videos, but frankly it's a little confusing to me.
Question is what do I need to get to switch over to .223.
I don't load 45 or 9mm.

Thanks for any time spent in response. Very appreciated!

You're going to love this machine! You will need a conversion kit for .223 and a powder through die. If you crimp your loads then you may want a separate crimp die if you don't have one.

Come to think of it, you can take the powder die from the 45 or 9mm as well as use the tool head.

Thanks much for the help. Very appreciated.

So I can just order a ".223 Conversion Kit"?

I didn't think the powder die for the straight wall cases would work for the tapered cases?

Also I believe I only need 3 dies for the .223 as usual as opposed to 4 for the 45 and 9mm. Correct? I've never loaded any pistol.

Once again............Thanks very much for any information. Very appreciated!

The conversion kit should have the station pins (brass pins), the shell plate, and the powder funnel for the particular caliber. Look at the manual for which powder bar to use for the amount of powder that you're using (large powder bar I believe). The manuals are available for downloading from this website.

I load 223 on my 550b press and it works great. Just make sure to read the manual on setting up the caliber conversion kit and take time with your strokes to allow for the powder to fall. You'll have better results with ball powder such as H335. Best wishes.

I'm 68 and just started using my 550 after using a Rockchucker for years. Its a little confusing getting started. After I figured out what I thought I'd need I gave Dillon a call and they confirmed my order. Also on YouTube there's a couple of videos of guys switching from 45 to 223, take a look at those. Ultimater reloader and Highboy make some good vids. I'm in the process of making that switch right now. After you get your tool heads set up everything will start falling into place. I found that boat tail bullets feed much faster that flat base so you might give those a try.
