Caliber Conversion

I am fairly new to reloading but have been lucky enough to reload thousands of rounds over the past 8 months or so. I load .44 Remington Magnum on a Dillon RL550B and 9mm, .38 Special, and .357 Magnum on a Lee Pro 1000.I am preparing to load some .45 Colt on the Dillon for a friend of mine and also, in the near future, some 10mm as well. I have been listing and pricing parts required for the .45 Colt conversion. I have a set of Lyman diesand they consist of a Resizing/Decapping die, an Expander die, and a bullet seating die. My question is: since the power funnel comes with the conversion kit, is that all I need for the powder drop using the universal powder measure die? Also, since that die makes the bell, do I just not use the Lyman expander die? Really wondering if there are any other parts I may need to order. Thanks for the help

RE: Caliber Conversion

If you are using the dillon powder measure, then the conversion kit is all you need. You will not use the expander die in Lyman set. You may want to get a separate seat die, that way you don't have to seat and crimp in the same station. I load all the calibers you mention (except 10mm) on my 550 for almost 20yrs and have all ways seated and crimped separately.

RE: Caliber Conversion

If you want to leave these 45 Colt dies set up and adjusted, then you will need a toolhead, a powder die and the caliber conversion kit. Your dies will work, just skip the expander die, as the powder measure performs this function.
