Broken link arm and crank (550B)

Last night I was loading some 9mm and the right link arm on my 550B broke just above where it is attached to the crank. After disassembly, I also saw the little knob on the left side of the crank was starting to break off. There are marks on the back sides of both link arms indicating repeated contact with the knobs on the left and right side of the crank. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong that would lead to this failure? The link arm broke on the downstroke.

How old is your press? I cracked my crank😁 but after 30 years of use. This was before the virus and Dillon was great about sending the part.

I'm not near my press so can't comment on your contact issue.

It’s about 9 years old. Probably loaded 30k+ rounds, mostly 9mm and 223.

Looking at it more closely, I think the left knob began to crack first and as it got pushed back, the right link arm began to take most of the force as the ram reached the top.

Since this is my only 550, is it normal for the link arms to bottom out on the crank as the ram reaches its highest point?

I ordered the parts via 2-day and am back in action. I also filed a warranty claim, but have not heard back yet. Either way, it’s all good. Just trying to possibly prevent this from happening again!

Just received a reply that they are shipping warranty replacement parts. Much faster than I anticipated and I appreciate it!

Without my press at my current location I can't see but I believe there is a stop point between the arms and crank. Good that you're back in operation.
