550 Out of Alignment?

I purchased a second 550B a while ago for my cabin, as life soes sometimes by the time I received it my plans had changed and I will not be able to spend the time up there I had thought I would.

Well I had the second 550B so I put it together here at home and mounted it and am using it for rifle and the original one for pistol loads.

I noticed that the newer one (my old one is only a year old) always had a problem and I thought it was normal until I ran the second one. Most of the time I have to wiggle the shell plate just a little to get the case to go into the re-sizer die. Not a lot but if I am not careful it will crush a case sometimes. The now one it no problem it just goes in every time.

I have read on the internet ( and everything is true there right? ) that there is a alignment procedure. I ordered a Alignment tool off ebay but before I try it I am wondering if this something that just a user can do or do I have to send it to Dillon? Is there a video showing how to do it? Can I screw it up to the point that I damage the press?

Thank you in advance for any words of wisdom someone can pass along.
You won't do any damage to the machine , just waste primers. Had you contacted us first, we provide alignment tools at no charge when needed. The tool should include instructions.

RE: 550 Out of Alignment?

Thank you for your reply. I do not mind purchasing the alignment tool, I do not like asking for free stuff, I run a business and it is hard enough to make a buck without having people ask for free stuff.

I called once for a problem I was having with spent primers all over under the shell plate and a man told me to remove the pin on the little cup that catches the spent primer and replace it with a finishing nail and bend the end to keep it in place, it worked just fine.

The second time I called I asked about my primer problem with them flipping and getting caught. I could tell he was having a bad day and he really did not have anything to say except to tighten the spring on the bar that goes to the powder dispencer. It was a short call and not very sweet. I never even got a chance to say that the cup that holds the large primer was showing wear on one side. I have since figured it catches on the one side and I think that is when I get my primers flipped. I load a lot of 45 Colt so I think that is why that shows the wear.

Do not get me wrong, I am not trashing Dillon in any way, I love my 550B's and have learned a lot in the last year. I am still waiting to start saving money....... But I shoot a lot more! Your employees are people, people sometimes have a bad day and I can just amagine how frustrating it is to explain the same thing over and over again. I am sure its not normal, like I said everyone is entitled to a bad day once in awhile.

I enjoy these forums you have created for your customers, I have learned a lot here and if I get stuck I just ask and there is always someone that knows the answer I need.

As for the primers, Its not a problem I just deprime on a single stage press so I can Clean them including the primer pocket in my wet tumbler and just prime them by had with a hand held primer. I like it because I can feel what is going on especially with the 223 rifle, I was having all kinds of problems with them and now its easier (I purchased you primer pocked swagger and that made things much better on the 223).

My next upgrade is going to be a case feeder for my pistol press but when I tried to order it on your web site it would only let me buy one conversion for it. Can you give me the order numbers for the conversion for these callibers?
380 Auto
9 MM
357 Mag
40 Cal
44 Mag
45 Acp
45 Colt

Also I see the case feeders listed for the 550 as large pistol and Small pistol. I think that means the plate that comes with it but in the forums I read that a lady purchased one for her husband and it came with both plates. Does the case feeder come with both plates?

Thank You for your time

No it didn't come with both plates, my wife said she added the second plate to order, she added all the caliber conversions too for all calibers I load.
