30/30 Win

So I'm loading 30/30 on the 550 L and using CCI 200 large rifle primers and they are not seating all the way in. When I set them on the counter top they wobble from the primer sticking out. Not had this happen before. Used the swage and that didn't work. Anybody know the answer?

RE: 30/30 Win

finally figured it out. Didn't have my caliber conversion kit down low enough. first time that ever happened. But a few turns on the bolt makes all the difference in the world when seating primers. Gots to remember that! Duh

If you haven't already done so, go and buy a box of 100 large rifle primers made by the manufacturer/brand of the brass which you are reloading & try them. Then you can also put 1 of the CCI primers side by side with 1 of the other primers, on a flat surface, anvil side up, and examine them closer to see if the CCI primer is just a hair or so taller or slightly larger in diameter(If you have a very good micrometer your could also try checking them with it)
Some rifle primer pockets are made 'straight-wall' and some are made with a curved or 'beveled wall'. You need to check your empty deprimed brass and see. If you have the 'beveled wall' type & insist in using CCI primers(or have to due to availability) then you'll need to buy or make your 'own' pocket reamer. Otherwise, I'd try other brands of primers first. (I think Lyman or RCBS make a 'blade-type' primer pocket cleaner that should also work to 'square up' and deburr the primer pockets-- ask Dillon if they stock them ?)
