I've been working up a load in 357 mag using Hornady 125 gr. HP-XTP with 14.3 gr. of 2400 at the moment. I'm experiencing a good bit of partially burnt/unburnt powder in the cases after firing. Its not affecting accuracy or extraction, but I'm sure the velocity is not up to par. I'm using a heavy crimp with CCI #550 primers. The revolver is a S&W 686-6, 6"
I've googled for similar problems and found some who say 2400 needs to be loaded between medium and hot for reliable ignition in regards to 125 gr. bullets. Any ideas?

I have since used 14.6 gr. and 14.9 gr. There has been a noticeable decrease in the amount of unburnt powder left in the case after firing. I'm thinking I will need to go to about 15.5 in order to have almost no unburnt powder, assuming all other variable remain the same.

Could it be that you're not crimping enough? Just an idea...
