It certainly sounds like unburnt or incompletely burnt powder coming from the ejection port. Check your crimp diameter on a loaded cartridge, at the case mouth it should measure .468-.470" diameter.

I did reload 30 more rounds and have not had a chance to go to the range to see how the rounds are. I did have to pull one of the rounds and I noticed a ring around the bullet where it was crimped (I did adjust the crimp to be around .468 - .469) is this too much of a crimp or a roll crimp? I do not want to create too much pressure in the case.

 

 

I would rather ask and not have a problem than blow up my gun.

It is not unusual to see an indentation in the pulled bullet from the crimp. .469" is about as tight of a crimp as I prefer, but overpressure is not a hazard, only decreased accuracy. Excessive crimp can sufficiently reduce bullet diameter that bullets tumble.

Hey mmessimon:  If you just have a few specs. That is the sign your not shooting enough.  If you can't tell where your shirt sleeve begins and your arm starts, and the oil is running down the web of your hand, then your starting to shoot almost enough.  It's actually no problem. It happens to me all of the time. I use 3.7 Bullseye and a 200 gwc. This has been a target load for a long time. Good Luck.
