There are three versions of the XL650, with some minor variations to the powder measure. XL650 was introduced in 1992.
Version 1) steel platform, primer seating punches held in by spring clips. In production only about nine months before replacement by version 2.
Version 2) steel platform, primer seating punches thread up into the underside of the platform.
Version 3) [current version] alloy platform, thicker than steel platform, primer seating punches thread up into the underside of the platform.
Originally, the powder measures had a thin coil return spring to provide primary retraction of the powder bar, with a failsafe return rod in case the powder bar stuck. For the last several years, the bellcrank has been a two-piece assembly, no return spring, and a redesigned failsafe rod that is the sole method of retracting the powder bar. This linkage also dealys return of the powder bar until after the shellplate rotates via a bend in one of the bellcrank pieces. Powder measures freely move between machines, so they cannot be used to date a machine.
