Primer problems

I have 550B for 10 years No problems Changed over from 9mm to 45 and all the primer bar will do is when I bring the handle down to seat the primer it hang up and flips the primer on its side and then seats the primer in sideways I don't know what to do Please somebody must know the the secret Thanks Mike Cowan

First, scrub the sides and bottom of the primer slide using steel wool or green scotchbrite pad. Then wipe these off using solvent. No lube on the priming system. Next, be sure the primer cup and punch are fully seated into the primer slide. To determine the corect depth, measure from the underside of the primer slide to the top of the primer cup using calipers. It should measure 1.215"-1.220" total. If too tall, use a clamp or vise to reseat them, then tighten the set screw.

I just made the same switch from 9mm to .45 as well. I have a case feeder on my 550B, and the problem I have been having is that the case does not stay centered over the new primer. It seems the plunger pulls the case back a mill or 2 causing a misalignment. I have cleaned the face of the plunger, but still seems to happen pretty often.
Any suggestions?

JR,
It sounds like either the shellplate bolt isn't tight enough, or else the stamped steel plunger cam needs to be adjusted a tiny bit more towards the rear of the frame. Regarding shellplate bolt tension, push down on the edge of the shellplate between stations 2 and 3. If it feels springy, then the bolt needs to be tightened a bit more.

Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions. The shellplate was adjusted okay, but the plunger was a bit off. Once I made a minor adjustment to the plunger the primer problem was history. 400 rounds loaded without any misalignments!!
