Primer System ?
Would like to know what the distance is between the "shellplate" and the "Rotary Primer Disc" when everything is assembled. The reason I'm asking is that I have a batch of primers that every now and then Jam them self's in this space which requires a shell plate removal to clear. I started to measure these primers in question and the are about .145" tall, where as a normal primer seems to be about .130". Thx - Roger Login to reply to this topic
I don't have access to the shim gages, but less than .010". A business card won't fit between the underside of the shellplate and the top of the primer disc.
Don't use CCI, mine hates CCI and Federal. They hang up pretty regularly. Means stopping a run of ammo and taking things apart. Might only be mine but I don't think so. Winchester seems to be the most consistant without all the hassle of hanging a primer in the primer washer.
I've only had the 650 for about a year now, but I've loaded at least 2,000 30-06 and 2,500 .223 all with CCI primers with no problem until last week. I send CCI an email last week and they wanted to know the lot numbers in question. Havn't heard back from them as of yet. I looks like it maybe just a bad batch of primers. I completed my reloading with a different box of CCI primers (300 rounds) with no problems. We will see what they say.
I have loaded more than 1500 223 cal with CCI small rifle primers this past summer with no problems in my 650. But, saying that, I have had at times problems at times loading federal small pistol primers in 38 cal. I found that cleaning & keeping burnt power and dirt off on the primer wheel seems to help stop primer problems seating there. DW
