What is a good powder to use in a SDB for practice ammo? I am interested in a powder that meters without any potential problems. I would imagine W231 would be an excellent choice but my understanding is that it may be discontinued.

Depends on what caliber you are loading.

W-231 is not likely to be discontinued anytime soon. It is fine for 9mm, too fast for 40 S&W. WSF or HS-6 is a better choice for 40.

I use WW231 for 9mm, .38 Special and .357 mag loads. It won't produce absolutely top velocity in any of them but meters extremely well and the charge weights are low so a pound of powder goes a long way. Good stuff and highly recommended.
I don't know why you think it will be discontinued. BTW, Hodgon HP-38 is exactly the same powder sold under the Hodgon name.

It does depend on the caliber of firearm your loading for. I personally use Bullseye for my .45acp. H-110 for my .44 mag. But its just me.
