I just installed a .32 H&R magnum conversion kit on my 550B. Using the machine as I normally do with several other handgun calibers I was finding the cases (Starline) were starting to push through the shellplate when I primed. This was damaging the case rim and causing the case to be misaligned at the bell/charging station. One case actually pushed completely through the shell plate. I put several cases in the trash can.
I have used this press since 1984 and this is the first time I have experienced this. I eased up on the pressure used to seat primers but occasionally a case rim still got mashed a little. There is some play between the plate opening and the case but the cases seem to fit like other calibers. I notice the .32 cases have less of a rim than larger magnums.
Is this something that happens with this cartridge or is there a chance the shell plate was machined to slightly larger tolerances?
