2 or 3 die for rifle
ok, Im new to reloading and could probably find this info in a loading manual, but I'll ask you all first. What is the difference in choosing a 2 or 3 die setup for rifle. I will be loading for .308 (SA NM M1A) for service rifle matches and .223 (AR15)for service rifle matches. Both obviously are mag fed. Thanks, Andrew Login to reply to this topic
If you are using a bullet without a cannelure, I would experiment with no crimp at all vs. a light taper crimp to see which gives the best accuracy. You don't want to apply so much crimp as to physically deform the bullet, this degrades accuracy.
basically the 3 die set gives you a crimping die which you really don't need if firing a bolt action ,,but for semi auto rifles its nice to crimp the bullet in place so when the bullets chamber themselves the bullet will not move or loosen,,,i only use a resizing/depriming die,,and a bullet seat die for my bolt actions ,,but on my semi autos i use all 3 dies,,,hope this helped
